Operation Mental Health

When we think of the sacrifices made by our service members, we often picture the physical toll of the job. But for many veterans returning to civilian life, the most significant battles are the ones fought internally

These are what some of us call the "invisible wounds": PTSD, anxiety, depression, and the heavy weight of transition stress. They don't show up on X-rays. They don't earn medals. And all too often, they go untreated, quietly dismantling lives that were built on courage and sacrifice.

At Wounded Warrior Homes, we believe that mental health care isn't a luxury or an afterthought it is an essential foundation for a successful life. That's why we created Operation Mental Health.

Understanding the Invisible Wounds

Service members are trained to be resilient. But combat exposure and the sudden shift from a structured military environment to civilian isolation can create a perfect storm for mental health challenges. The ripple effects touch every area of life:

  • Relationship strain with family and friends

  • Difficulty maintaining employment due to anxiety or lack of focus

  • Substance misuse as a way to cope with trauma

  • Housing instability caused by the inability to manage daily stressors

Operation Mental Health exists to ensure that no veteran has to navigate these challenges alone.

A Path to Healing: Licensed Counseling and Beyond

Through our partnership with Serene Health / Mindset, we provide veterans and their families with professional, confidential, and trauma-informed care. This isn't just about "talking it out", it's about specialized clinical support tailored to the unique experiences of the veteran community.

“Specialized care for those who have served.”

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that veterans carry experiences unlike most civilians. Our clinical partners are trained to meet them exactly where they are without judgment, without pressure and without shortcuts.

One of the most exciting aspects of this program is access to a breakthrough treatment technology that is changing lives right here in San Marcos, California.

PrTMS: Personalized Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

PrTMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to help regulate brain activity. PrTMS uses weekly EEG recordings to personalize treatment by adjusting the stimulation frequency and location based on the patient’s unique brainwave activity. Treatments typically last about 30 minutes per session and are usually performed over a period of four to six weeks depending on the patient’s needs. The therapy has been used to support individuals experiencing conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, concussions, and cognitive decline. Unlike many treatments that focus primarily on managing symptoms, PrTMS aims to address the underlying brainwave imbalances associated with neurological dysfunction. By targeting these sources, the therapy seeks to restore healthier brain activity patterns. The treatment is generally considered safe, with reported side effects usually mild and temporary, such as slight headaches or minor scalp discomfort. Because of its personalized and noninvasive approach, PrTMS is often regarded as a gentler and more advanced form of neuromodulation and is frequently sought by veterans and individuals exploring alternative options for neurological and mental health support.

When a veteran receives the mental health support they need, the impact stretches far beyond the individual. Healing is not just personal, it involves family and friends.

1. Families Stabilize: Parents become more present for their children. Marriages find new ground. Connection replaces distance.

2. Housing Security Grows: Mental clarity helps veterans manage transitional housing — and ultimately move into permanent, stable homes.

3. Purpose Is Restored: With the weight of trauma lifted, veterans rediscover confidence and pursue new careers or educational goals.
