Honoring the Birthday of the United States Coast Guard Reserve

Today, 02.19.2026, we proudly celebrate the birthday of the United States Coast Guard Reserve — a force defined by readiness, resilience, and unwavering service.

Established in 1941, the Coast Guard Reserve was created to provide trained personnel to support the Coast Guard during times of increased operational demand. For more than eight decades, Reservists have answered the call — strengthening maritime security, supporting national defense, and responding to emergencies at home and abroad.

A Legacy of Readiness

The Coast Guard Reserve was built on one clear mission: to remain ready. Whether responding to natural disasters, supporting search and rescue operations, assisting with port security, or reinforcing active-duty units, Reservists step forward whenever they are needed most.

What makes the Reserve unique is the balance its members maintain. These men and women serve their country while also leading civilian lives — working in businesses, schools, hospitals, and communities across the nation. When duty calls, they transition seamlessly from civilian professional to uniformed service member.

Their ability to uphold both responsibilities speaks to their discipline, character, and commitment.

Serving Communities and the Nation

The impact of the Coast Guard Reserve extends far beyond the coastline. During hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters, Reservists deploy to assist with response and recovery efforts. They provide critical manpower during times of national emergency and help ensure our waterways, ports, and maritime infrastructure remain safe and secure.

From homeland security operations to humanitarian missions, the Coast Guard Reserve continues to uphold the Coast Guard’s core values:

  • Honor

  • Respect

  • Devotion to Duty

These values guide every mission and every Reservist who wears the uniform.

Citizen-Service at Its Finest

Reservists embody the spirit of citizen-service. They are parents, business owners, teachers, students, healthcare professionals, and leaders in their communities. Yet, they remain always ready to serve something greater than themselves.

Their dedication strengthens not only our national security but also the communities they return to after each mission. They bring leadership, discipline, and a deep sense of purpose back into civilian life.

Celebrating 80+ Years of Commitment

As we recognize this milestone, we honor the generations of men and women who have served in the Coast Guard Reserve since 1941. Their contributions have safeguarded our nation’s waters, supported military operations, and protected American lives.

Today, we extend our gratitude to every past and present Reservist. Your courage, professionalism, and steadfast readiness do not go unnoticed.

Semper Paratus — Always Ready.

Happy Birthday to the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
